Late Summer, 1068 A.D.

In the uncertain nights following the Norman Conquest, the Kindred of Avalon have long lacked one thing that every domain eventually requires: a place where the sword may rest in its scabbard, old rivalries are set aside, and words carry greater weight than steel.
That place now stands in the heart of England.
In the closing days of May in the Year of Our Lord 1068, the Dering Manor was declared the first official Elysium recognized for all Kindred dwelling within Avalon. Under the stewardship of the Kindred Selene, the estate has become neutral ground, welcoming Kindred of every Clan, lineage, and allegiance who come in peace beneath its roof.
Two months have passed since its doors first opened, and the manor has already earned a reputation reaching from London and Oxford to York, Norwich, Exeter, and the Welsh Marches.

A Hall of Peace
The Dering Manor remains, at its heart, an English country estate.
A great timber hall rises from a stout stone foundation standing nearly to a man's hips, its heavy oak beams weathered by decades of English rain. Wattle-and-daub walls support a steep thatched roof beneath which smoke curls from the great central hearth before escaping through vents high above, leaving the ancient rafters blackened with soot.
Outside, the estate lives as any prosperous manor should. Barns overflow with harvested grain, livestock fill sturdy timber pens, kitchen gardens provide fresh herbs and vegetables, and muddy wagon paths weave between workshops, sheds, and stables. Beyond the cultivated fields lie quiet meadows before the old forests reclaim the land beneath, drifting evening mists.
To mortal eyes, it is simply another wealthy manor.
To the Damned, it has become something far greater.
The First True Elysium
Within these walls, violence is forbidden.
Weapons remain sheathed unless the defense of the manor itself demands otherwise. Blood Hunts, feuds, and political disputes halt at the entrance. Guests who cannot master their Beast are expected to leave before dishonor finds them.
The peace is maintained not merely by tradition but through the mutual respect of those who understand that every Prince, Baron, Elder, and Neonate occasionally requires a place where conversation may accomplish what centuries of violence cannot.
Selene herself serves as hostess rather than ruler, ensuring every visitor—whether Ventrue noble, Gangrel wanderer, Toreador artisan, Nosferatu spy, Brujah firebrand, Malkavian prophet, or stranger newly arrived upon Albion's shores—is received according to the customs of hospitality.
An Inn for the Children of Caine
Though functioning openly as an ordinary manor inn and tavern for trusted mortal travelers, much of the estate has quietly evolved to serve Kindred needs during its first two months.
Among its improvements are:
Numerous private guest chambers fitted with heavy shutters, thick oak doors, and layered curtains capable of excluding even the brightest daylight.
Several windowless resting chambers built within the manor's stone foundation, remaining naturally cool and almost completely dark throughout the day.
Reinforced cellar vaults converted into secure daytime havens for traveling Kindred unwilling to risk sleeping upon unfamiliar roads.
A guarded stable where ghouls and trusted servants maintain horses for those arriving from distant domains before sunset.
Hidden entrances known only to trusted guests, allowing discreet arrival or departure without drawing mortal attention.
Private meeting chambers where delicate negotiations, Primogen discussions, and the exchange of boons may occur away from listening ears.
A well-stocked library steadily growing with chronicles of Kindred history, local domains, noble lineages, and rumors gathered from across Avalon.
Secure lockboxes are available for temporary storage of valuables, letters, and personal effects while guests remain under Selene's hospitality.
The common hall itself has become renowned throughout England.
Its roaring hearth offers warmth to mortal patrons, while Kindred gather beneath candlelight to exchange news, discuss politics, negotiate alliances, recruit retainers, or simply enjoy conversation without fear of sudden violence.

Hospitality Before Politics
Perhaps the greatest success of the Dering Manor is not found in its walls but in its atmosphere.
Travelers who once viewed members of rival Domains with suspicion now routinely share tables over cups of warmed spiced wine served to mortal companions while Kindred quietly conduct their own affairs.
Messengers arrive almost nightly.
Merchants seek patrons.
Ghouls exchange information.
Sheriffs quietly investigate rumors.
Harpies observe every whispered conversation.
Elders reminisce about Rome while fledglings listen with equal measures of fascination and terror.
Every visitor leaves knowing a little more than when they arrived.
A Growing Reputation
Only two months have passed, yet stories of the manor already travel the roads of Avalon.
It is said that no fewer than half a dozen Domains have conducted peaceful negotiations beneath its roof.
Boons have been sworn there.
Blood debts have been settled.
Trading agreements established.
Runaway ghouls returned safely to their masters.
More than one wandering Gangrel has found sanctuary before continuing deeper into England's wild forests.
Even cautious Princes have begun encouraging trusted subjects to make use of the manor when diplomacy requires neutral ground.
The Future of Avalon
No one can say how history will remember the Dering Manor.
Perhaps future generations will simply know it as the first Elysium of Avalon.
Perhaps it will become the birthplace of alliances that shape England for centuries to come.
Or perhaps, in time, every great Domain will establish its own halls of peace inspired by Selene's example.
For now, however, one truth is beyond dispute.
When the sun falls beneath the western horizon and darkness settles across the fields of England, a single timber hall shines warmly against the night—a place where every Kindred willing to honor the Traditions may find shelter, conversation, and peace.
The doors of Dering Manor remain open to all who enter with respect, for beneath its ancient oak beams, every Child of Caine stands as a guest before anything else.
