In the heart of England, amidst the winding River Thames and the lush, mist-veiled hills of Oxfordshire, lies the city of Oxford, a venerable jewel of learning, power, and secrets. By 1550, Oxford had risen to great prominence under the reign of young King Edward VI, continuing its proud tradition of scholastic excellence. The city teems with scholars in robes of sable and ash, merchants hawking their wares in crowded markets, and clergy who keep wary eyes on the ancient colleges whose walls whisper older truths than scripture dares contain.
The University of Oxford, a proud collection of colleges founded over centuries, boasts stonework so weathered it seems part of the Earth itself. Great halls echo with debates of law, theology, and natural philosophy. Yet beneath the academic elegance, there lies another Oxford—one unseen by most. For those of awakened blood and inhuman ancestry, Oxford is a haven of deeper learning, a crucible of the supernatural that draws Prodigals from across the world.
The Hidden Colleges of Prodigals
While sunlight floods the libraries and lecture halls by day, shadowed staircases and warded doorways lead to cloisters where mortal minds cannot tread. Beneath the archways of Merton, Magdalen, and Brasenose, and within the fortified heart of All Souls College, lie the Hidden Halls—a clandestine network of classrooms, ritual chambers, and sparring fields.
Kindred, especially the Tremere, are granted careful admittance under oaths of discretion and by bloodbound seals. Here, neonates and ancillae alike study the Foundations of Thaumaturgy, Hermetic Theory, Occult Symbology, and Masquerade Management. Classes are held after sunset, often by ghostlight and starlit glyphs etched into glass panes.
Changelings—called the Dreaming-Walkers—attend during twilight hours and misty mornings. Within ivy-clad courtyards and behind illusory hedgerows, they are taught Glamour Weaving, The Arts of Pranks and War, Fey Diplomacy, and Sword-Dance Rituals. Their teachers are Eshu storytellers, Sidhe war-dukes, and Boggan archivists, all cloaked in glamour and tradition. Their duels, equal parts poetry and violence, are often witnessed by awestruck mortals who forget the memory by dawn.
Garou and Shifter students from tribes scattered across the British Isles, Scandinavia, the Levant, and even the distant jungles of the New World, have claimed sacred ground in a grove hidden deep behind New College. Called The Iron Glade, it is tended by Kinfolk and spirits alike. Garou learn the Histories of the Cearn, Litany and Law, Rites of the Moon, and Form Combat—training in both human and Crinos form. Tutors include Silver Fang philosophers, Stargazer mystics, and a wizened Gurahl who teaches spiritual harmony and the way of Gaia.
The Sub-School of Arcane Studies
But among all the hidden curricula, one school stands alone in both mystery and prestige: the Arcane Collegium, known only to the supernatural elite as "Logan’s Court". Here, young mages—Awakened from all traditions and across every continent—gather to pursue the study of raw magic, primal forces, and the higher mysteries.
In this sanctum, students from Alexandria, Samarkand, Kyoto, Benin, Tenochtitlan, and Muscovy mingle, casting spells in languages long dead or yet to be born. The Collegium stands beneath Radcliffe Tower, accessible only by solving a riddle of starlight and spirit. Its halls shimmer with floating orbs, breathing parchments, and chalkboards that speak in tongues of fire and shadow.
At its center stands Headmaster Logan, a towering, silver-haired man with eyes like glaciers and a voice like grinding stone. Born more than two millennia ago in the far north, the people of Vinland once called him Ymir, believing him a frost giant. In truth, he is a Prime Adept of the Old Order, one of the last living souls to have studied at Atlantis’ final temple before its fall. His command over the spheres is unmatched, and his word is law among the supernatural students of Oxford.
Logan’s mission is clear: to unify the Arcane Traditions, guard the world from the unseen horrors beyond the veil, and train the next generation of mages to balance power with wisdom. With his ancient staff of yew, known as Skardrun, he binds the school's wards, breaks the spirits of would-be saboteurs, and watches over all with terrible compassion.
Oxford's Place in the Dreaming World
To the mundane eye, Oxford is a place of candles, books, and theological dispute. But to those who know how to listen—to the wind, to the stones, to the dreams between raindrops—Oxford in 1550 is a sanctuary of ancient pacts, a convergence of myth and magic, and perhaps the last neutral city of the supernatural in all of England.
So long as Logan-Ymir draws breath and holds his post, peace shall remain among Prodigals within Oxford's dreaming spires. But beyond its walls, the world is changing. Fires burn in France. The Mongol spirits stir in the east. The Camarilla tightens its grip. The Wyrm, it is whispered, learns to speak.
And so Oxford prepares. Quietly. Carefully. Eternally.
