Clan Toreador — Embraced 1340 — Origin: Castile, Spain
Domain: London, 1554
Specialty: Courtly Etiquette, Noble Intrigue & Artistic Patronage

Public Description (for Player Reference)
Few Kindred in London can claim such poise, refinement, and political subtlety as Doña Ysabel de Aragón. Once a lady-in-waiting to the Queens of Castile, Ysabel was Embraced into Clan Toreador amid the gilded courts of Seville. Her sire, the painter and court mystic Don Rafael de Segura, saw in her the living embodiment of mortal grace — a muse who might carry the art of living itself into eternity. For two centuries, she moved among Europe’s most refined courts — Granada, Florence, and Vienna — as both patron and instructor to mortal and immortal artists alike.
Now, in the Spring of 1554, she has arrived in London — a city still trembling from war, mourning, and rebirth — to establish a salon of elegance and influence under the sanction of the Prince and the blessing of her clanmates.
Appearance & Presence
Ysabel is a vision of stately beauty and haunting stillness.
Hair: Deep chestnut brown, swept into elaborate Tudor-era coils and veiled with silken lace.
Eyes: Hazel-green with faint golden flecks — a gaze that both flatters and measures.
Height: 5’6” — slender, poised, every gesture deliberate.
Clothing: She prefers dark velvet gowns trimmed with gold embroidery and Spanish lace; her sleeves often feature faint patterns resembling roses or crosses. A pendant of obsidian set in silver rests always against her throat.
Weapon of Choice: A slender stiletto dagger hidden in her fan’s frame, said to have once belonged to Queen Eleanor of Castile.
When she walks into a room, mortals straighten instinctively, and even Kindred pause before speaking. The air seems to bend around her composure — neither warmth nor cold, but a perfection that leaves others aware of their own imperfections.
Purpose in London
Ysabel’s move to London was no casual voyage. Her arrival was the result of carefully exchanged letters between the Toreador elders of Paris, Florence, and Avalon’s capital. The Prince of London, ever mindful of maintaining noble decorum amidst chaos, welcomed her under formal patronage to teach “the art of courtly grace” to new Kindred of London’s court — many of whom have risen through power or passion, but not refinement.
The Toreador Primogen, ever protective of their influence, approved her establishment of La Casa de Velada, a hidden salon within a manor off Cheapside.
Here, Kindred may learn:
The proper conduct of noble presentation and intrigue.
The subtle cues that influence mortal and immortal courts.
The etiquette of artful feeding — how to dine without disgrace.
The mastery of charm and restraint expected of those who serve under Prince Gawain’s glittering but watchful eye.
Rumor suggests Ysabel also reports to the Council of Roses in Florence — keeping an eye on London’s evolving art scene and ensuring it reflects the proper taste of Toreador society. Others whisper that she fled Castile after a violent schism between her sire’s faction and the Inquisition, and that she carries secrets of mortal and Kindred nobles both.
Role in the Chronicle
Ysabel is not a warrior, nor a schemer of violence. She is the keeper of poise in an age of madness. Players may seek her for:
Instruction in Etiquette, Performance, or Politics.
Access to noble courts or introductions to mortal patrons.
Guidance on how to behave before elders or royals without humiliation.
Insight into the artistic or social history of Iberia, the Papal courts, or early Renaissance Europe.
Discrete assistance smoothing over political or romantic scandals.
She asks for no payment in coin, but expects tribute in art, poetry, song, or sincere devotion — “for the true coin of eternity,” she says, “is beauty preserved in memory.”
Notable Traits & Rumors
Her shadowed sponsor is believed to be Octavia Drusilla, Ventrue Primogen of London, who values Ysabel’s ability to polish rough nobles into glittering courtiers.
The Bards of House Phoenix whisper that Ysabel’s salons sometimes cross into the Dreaming — that Glamour and Vitae mingle under her roof.
Some claim she keeps a portrait that ages in her place, painted in 1362, hidden beneath the stairs of her manor.
Her demeanor is serene, but her temper — when stirred — is said to crack like shattering glass.
Motto:
“Grace is the first weapon of immortality — and the last shield against damnation.”
